Geoff Carnegie Managing Director, Founder |
Geoff Carnegie
Geoff is an energy entrepreneur with 25 years of power generation and ancillary facilities experience in Canada and abroad. Aside from BluMaple, he co-founded and provided senior leadership for both BluEarth Renewables and BluFrog Energy. He’s also held senior positions with Canadian Hydro Developers and ESG International.
Geoff has extensive experience and proven success in capacity building, sustainable project development, corporate consulting, communications, and community engagement. He’s pursued academics in both Canada and abroad, and holds a M.Sc. from the University of Guelph, a Bachelor of Environmental Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Certificate of Environmental Impact Assessment from the University of Waterloo.
He has a passion for the planet and has supported both World Vision and the Canadian Wildlife Federation for more than 25 years. When he’s not working, Geoff enjoys waterskiing, hockey, spending time with his family, and searching for the perfect Negroni.

Rick Koshman
Rick is a dynamic team-oriented executive and Board member with a proven track record of building high performing teams across multiple facets of the energy sector. Throughout his 25 years of experience, he’s held a broad range of leadership roles within operations, engineering, and business strategy in Keyera Corp., Athabasca Oil Corp., Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., and PetroKazakhstan.
He’s a long-term member of the Canadian Energy Executive Association serving on its Board for five years and also currently sits on the Board of Advisors for Mayfair Lumber. He has also been a strong advocate for men’s health through his previous board and fund-raising involvement with Prostate Cancer Canada. Rick has an MBA from IMD Business School in Switzerland, a Bachelor Mechanical Engineering from Lakehead University, completed the FSE program at Harvard Business School, and is a registered professional engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Alberta.
When not pursuing BluMaple’s mission, you will likely find Rick doing something athletic (running, wake surfing, or golf), spending time with his family, or comparing Bordeaux tasting notes.
Darilyn Landfried Managing Director |
Darilyn Landfried
Darilyn is a commercial and energy marketing specialist with over 20 years of experience leading and building high performing teams in both environmental services and natural resources. With a keen acumen for business development, strategic planning, and risk management, Darilyn has successfully developed and executed business strategies in complex and dynamic environments.
Prior to joining BluMaple, Darilyn served as Vice President of Tervita’s Energy Marketing business and has also held leadership positions with energy producer CNOOC-Nexen and infrastructure company SemCanada. She has a passion for local initiatives and volunteers as a mentor through Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council. Darilyn has a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance with Distinction and Honours from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master of International Business from the University of Birmingham, UK.
When not working on BluMaple activities, Darilyn enjoys running, skating, and travelling. She also loves to spend time with her family and is working on perfecting her boeuf bourguignon.

Trevor Conway
Trevor has over 25 years of experience in planning, negotiating, and executing transactions for mid-market companies in various industry sectors, including energy & infrastructure. Most recently, Trevor was Managing Director & Head of Energy Investment Banking for iA Capital Markets, a division of iA Private Wealth and a part of iA Financial Group.
Trevor serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Energy Executive Association and as a Member on the Local Advisory Committee of the TSX Venture Exchange. He has a MBA from University of Western Ontario (Ivey Business School) and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from University of Alberta. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and currently pursuing Sustainable Investment Professional Certification from the John Molson Executive Centre at Concordia University.
You will often find Trevor and his wife exploring the trails that surround Calgary and beyond with their faithful companion, a young King Shepherd called Magnus.

David Smith Chair |
David Smith
David brings 40 years of extensive experience in the energy sector to BluMaple. As the Chief Executive Officer of Keyera Corp from 2015 until 2020, and a senior executive since the company’s inception in 1998, David specializes in building great teams and growing Canadian energy enterprises. He started his career with Imperial Oil in the early ‘80s before transitioning to Gulf Canada Resources Limited nearly a decade later. He has a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University, and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, David has a big heart and finds different ways to give back to Calgary’s non-profit sector. He was Co-Chair of Calgary’s 2018 United Way campaign and he currently serves as a director on the boards of the Calgary United Way and Arts Commons.
David is BluMaple’s resident curling champion, puzzle specialist, and Scotch enthusiast. When he’s not working, David enjoys golfing, cycling and water sports in the summer, skiing and curling in the winter. With a wife, three daughters, and a new granddaughter, he delights in being surrounded by the women in his life.

Marnie Smith
Marnie is a Managing Director at Russell Reynolds Associates, a top global executive search firm based in New York, NY, leading its Western Canadian team, Canadian Energy Practice and as a member of its Board & CEO Advisory Partners and Global Industrial and Natural Resources Practice. Marnie partners with clients across industries on their strategic leadership initiatives and decisions, including CEO, Board and leadership succession, leadership assessment and development and board effectiveness. Prior to her executive search career, she was Managing Director and Head of Canadian Energy at a global bank where she provided dynamic corporate finance solutions, advice in relation to valuation, strategy and mergers and acquisitions, and the execution of principal investments.
With a passion for human equity and advancing women in business, Marnie dedicates her time to GROW and Axis Connects where she was a founding member of each. She has previously been very active with Women in Capital Markets, UNICEF Canada, and the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in Southern Alberta. Today she serves on the Board of Directors of both STARS and Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd.
With her young daughters as her inspiration, Marnie is a trail blazer and thought leader for the next era of energy development. When she’s not working, you can find her skiing, back country hiking, running, or golfing. As an avid traveler, she pursues adventure through the learning of different cultures, histories, and exotic foods.
John Cooper Member |
John Cooper
John brings over 30 years of comprehensive leadership, strategy, and energy, waste, and environmental sector knowledge. He’s served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Tervita Corporation from 2017 to 2021. Throughout his decades of experience, John has also held C-Suite roles with ClearStream Energy Services Inc., Savanna Energy Services Corp., Enermax Services Inc., and Superior Propane. He is currently Chair of the Canadian Energy Executives Association. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Western Ontario
John’s wealth of wisdom in environmental services combined with his progressive vision for Canada’s energy sector, passionate enthusiasm, and recognition of the importance of people and teamwork are some of the qualities that make him a great fit at BluMaple.
In his personal life, John is a savvy wine connoisseur, a collector of Canadian art, and a proper (well ok, fine!) athlete – preferring hockey, golf, and working out. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends in the great outdoors.

Dave Finstad
Dave has more than 30 years experience in the institutional investment industry. Most recently he was a Managing Director at British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) where he led a team of investment professionals in managing BCI’s absolute return and long-only equity fund investments. Previously, he co-managed the New York office of OMERS on behalf of the Capital Markets division. Dave has held similar roles at AIMCo and the Workers’ Compensation Board – Alberta. Throughout his career, Dave has extensive experience in originating, researching, and investing in a wide variety of public and private investment strategies and co-investments. Dave has an M.Sc. in Accounting & Finance from the London School of Economics and is a CFA charter holder.
Effective leadership, collaborative investment cultures, and unbiased, evidence-based decision-making are all topics that Dave is passionate about. He has written a number of articles and spoken at numerous investment conferences about these and other related subjects.
Married with two daughters, Dave enjoys travelling and has lived in Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, London (UK), New York, and now Victoria, BC. A former middle-distance runner, and a sports enthusiast, Dave is able to use his quantitative skills in his fantasy hockey league, which he has done so for more than 25 years. In addition, Dave is not averse to enjoying the occasional pint of amber ale or glass of Bordeaux.

Rob Dawson
Rob is Chief Financial Officer at Badger Infrastructure Solutions. He is a finance, strategy, and corporate development professional who has built his experience over 25 years of developing and leading high impact, value driven teams. He has successfully executed both small and multi-billion-dollar transactions, debt financings, and IPOs for major companies while holding executive positions (Chief Financial Officer, EVP) in a variety of industries including environmental services (Tervita), upstream oil and gas (Canadian Oil Sands, Suncor), global telecommunications, and the reinsurance/commodities hedge fund businesses.
With a passion for local communities, Rob supports the Calgary Urban Project Society as well as a number of grass roots organizations that help parents and their children build resiliency and overcome the challenges of poverty and trauma. Rob has a Bachelor of Commerce, with distinction, from the University of Calgary and also holds professional designations as both a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst.
When not working, you will find Rob outdoors with his family, mountain biking, skiing, coaching community hockey, or at home trying to hone his home barista skills.
